JUNE 17/18 = CLEAN SWEEP FOR THE REDS

3 games, 3 wins and with that 2 semifinal cup spots booked and a top of the table lead extended.

Saturday was first up and the lads headed to Karo Park in Inglewood to take on the home team in the Duff Rosebowl and it was the REDS who come out on top with a comfortable 3-0 win.  The scoring was opened by captain- Connor Hay for a 1-0 halftime lead.  An OG and late strike by Charlie Bennett in the second half took the score to 3-0 and with that a place in the semifinals was booked.

Sunday saw the Withers Coachlines Women host Waitara in the Duchess Cup and it took 2 hours of football to get a result. After the game sat in the balance at 1-1 after 90mins the teams had to grit out another 30mins of extra time and it was Moturoa who found the net 3 times to seal the win 4-1.  Kirsty Stoneman scored her first senior goal in normal time before Jasmine Middlebrook and Kate Carter (2) found the net in extra time to avoid the result being decided by penalties.  A gutsy and hard earned win for the ladies in RED.

The Excel Refrigeration Women travelled to Massey to face Palmerston North United and kept their perfect Federation League record with a 3-1 win in a sometimes physical and scrappy encounter due to the home side being happy to test the referees patience, with the resulting infringements creating a stop start fixture.  Sommer Jordan scored from a freekick before Fernanda Toscani converted from the penalty spot and then slotted a very well taken goal after the break. The side extended their league lead and Fernanda Toscani sits well clear in the leagues Golden Boot race.
